Pemmican

Pemmican is a concentrated high protein food consisting of dried pulverized meat, dried berries, and rendered fat.

It was invented by the native peoples of North America, and widely used during the fur trade and later by Arctic and Antarctic explorers such as Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen as a high-calorie food.

Our version of Pemmican leaves out the dried meat and rendered fat, but you can add those if you want!

Ingredients / Tools
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup dates
  • 1/2 cup cranberries
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 1 honey bear (or jar of honey)

*note: Pemmican is traditionally made from whatever is available, so feel free to substitute or add whatever seems nice to you!

Preparation
  1. chop finely or grind and combine all ingredients except honey
  2. add honey a little at a time, mixing well until moist enough to hold a shape
  3. pour into a pan or mold into bars on wax paper, refrigerate
