Macaroni Necklace
Macaroni crafts are classics in American culture! Making your own macaroni necklaces is a fun and easy craft that builds hand-eye coordination. You and your kids can also have fun with macaroni in lots of other ways, like glueing to construction paper to make works of art!
Ingredients / Tools
- large, uncooked macaroni noodles
- yarn
- tape
- scissors
- food coloring (optional)
- rubbing alcohol (optional)
Preparation
- OPTIONAL STEP: To color your macaroni - for each color, mix together in a small bowl or resealable plastic sandwich bag a few drops of food coloring with approximately 3 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol. Immerse macaroni and allow to absorb coloring for a few minutes. Dry on paper towels before stringing.
- Cut yarn into necklace-length portions (about 16 inches). Wrap one end tightly with tape to allow for easier lacing.
- String one macaroni on the un-taped end and tie a knot, so that next macaronis stack on top without sliding off the string.
- Continue stringing your necklace, making patterns as desired with different colored macaroni.
