Where is the United States?

The mainland of the United States is located in North America between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. At over 3.7 million square miles (9.6 million km²) and with more than 300 million people, the United States is the third or fourth largest country by total area, and third largest by land area and population.

The Statue of Liberty was presented to the United States by France in 1886, and until air travel was the first glimpse of America for millions of immigrants arriving by boat. The seven spikes on her crown represent the seven seas and continents, the broken shackles at her feet signify liberation from oppression and tyranny, and the torch symbolizes enlightenment.
