Salsa Fresca
(Fresh Salsa)
Salsa is a spicy sauce, and is one of the most well known Mexican dishes! Salsa is used as a condiment for a wide variety of traditional Mexican dishes.
There are endless variations of salsa recipes, feel free to experiment to find your own favorite. We provided a simple, easy fresh ingredients version here, that is not too spicy for the kiddies!
Ingredients / Tools
- 4-6 tomatoes, diced
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup white onion, finely chopped
- juice of two limes (about 1/4 cup)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- OPTIONAL - 1-3 (however spicy you want!) jalapenos, roasted, seeded and finely chopped
- OPTIONAL - 3-4 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
Preparation
- combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender (you can also mix by hand, mashing lightly with a fork to blend flavors) if you use a blender do it in smaller batches so it blends evenly and then combine together in a bowl.
- gently pulse chop ingredients until blended (not too much or it will turn to mush!)
- Transfer to a glass bowl, cover with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator to chill.
