It is very common to serve open-faced sandwiches with tea whenever company arrives, or as a light meal. Rye bread has been eaten in Latvia and the surrounding European area for many, many years. These little sandwiches are a great way to introduce your kids to Latvian cuisine!

Ingredients

  • Slices of party rye bread
  • Suggested toppings (varied according to traditional preference) liverwurst, cream cheese, salami or ham
  • Optional toppings: Thinly sliced radishes, sliced hard boiled eggs, olives, pickles, fresh dill

Preparation

1. These open faced sandwiches can be created according to your own taste and creativity!
2. To make it easier to spread the liverwurst you may want to take 4 TB and mix with 1TB mayonnaise.
