Latvian Paper Flower Headwreath

Jani is the Latvian holiday to celebrate the summer solstice.  The Latvian people stay up all night and wear head wreaths made of oak, ferns and flowers.  Here is an easy paper version but hopefully your little one won’t be partying all night!

What you'll need:

  • Paper plate
  • pencil
  • Tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Preparation

  1. Using your scissors cut a hole in the paper plate to fit your child’s head.
  2. Cut the tissue paper into squares about 2 x 2 inches.
  3. Place the eraser end of your pencil in the center of a tissue square and fold the paper around the pencil to shape it into a small “flower”.
  4. Glue the tissue around the paper plate and it’s ready to wear.
