Chinese New Year Paper Lanterns
Paper lanterns are very popular during celebrations in China, particularly during the Chinese New Year. Often handmade, many paper lanterns hold a small candle and some even float in water.
What you'll need:
- Construction paper
- Tape or Glue
- Scissors
- String or yarn for hanging
- Decorations: Glitter, sequins, stickers, markers
Preparation
- Fold construction paper in half lengthwise
- Cut a row of slits in the paper perpendicular to the folded edge
- Unfold and connect the short ends of the paper with tape or glue.
- Decorate using glitter, sequins, stickers or markers
- Attach string or yarn and hang. You can tape or glue your string to either side of the lantern. You can also punch a hole on either side, string your yarn through and tie.
