Chinese Dragon Kite
Dragons are a popular part of Chinese culture and mythology. They are also common sights at Chinese New Year celebrations. Kites were invented in China about 2800 years ago and remain a great activity for all ages.
What you'll need:
- 3 or 4 Paper plates
- Yarn
- Markers or construction paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Decorations such as glitter, feathers, sequins, ribbon etc.
- Glue
Preparation
1. Using scissors or a pencil, punch a hole in the center of each paper plate.
2.
Tie a knot at the end of your yarn leaving about 12 inches of a tail.
3.
String your yarn through one of the plates.
4.
Tie another knot in your yarn about 6-12 inches from your first plate.
5.
String the yarn through the next plate.
6.
Continue until you have used all of your plates.
7.
The top plate will be the face of the dragon kite.
8.
Using construction paper cut out eyes, mouth, nose of dragon. Or use markers to draw the face on the top plate.
9.
Decorate using glitter, feathers, sequins, etc. You can also glue ribbon dangling from the plates.
